About This Site

It started waaaaaay back. I remember as a kid watching in awe a young Vladislav Tretiak in a Red Army (CCCP) versus Czechoslovakia hockey game with my father, a Czech, and remembering him say "Watch this kid! You think there is no way he is going to stop it and...there's his glove again from nowhere catching the puck!! He always steals a goal from us". Little did I know these few words would cause such a stir. It took 15 more years before those words triggered the start of this collection you see before you. Many people I know were suprised that a Czech fan would collect such a nemisis, but, it started with a simple 8X10 wood framed photo I saw at Cancentral Sports in Winnipeg that fanned the fire. The picture at the left is the one I bought and from there it snowballed.

I purchased a few cards from the Future Trends sets, then the whole eBay thing started and I thought that I could collect the rest of his cards as well. Little did I realize that there were quite a few cards and not too easy too find either. Then, at the Winnipeg Arena during a Moose game intermission, there was a 25th Anniversary celebration of the Summit Series and I met and shook his hand and got him to sign a card that I had. At 21 I felt like I was 11, nervous and speachless while standing in front of this legend. From this point on the collection took full flight and I have never looked back. I collected all kinds of memorabilia along the way, but the collector card checklist was the focus and still is.

This site is a result of many years of searching and collecting for Vladislav Tretiak items and memorabilia through many different channels. Many have been purchased online, some locally, and many items with the help of diligent people across North America and overseas spending countless hours reserching on their end as well. Many of them can be found on the links page along with other related information and photo credit sites. This culmination is over 15 years in the making and is still an on-going obsession. As you can see in my collector card wantlist, there are still a few that I need to complete this daunting task and any help that I can get would be really appreciated and welcomed. My user ID on eBay, The Hobby Insider, Beckett and most forums is Czech20, or, you may contact me through email. As well, any help in finding collector cards, memorabilia, collectables, and web site information errors is also welcomed.

I hope you enjoy looking at this site as much as I have enjoyed collecting and creating it. I felt that it needed to be shared so that everyone had a chance to look at it and view the history of a true legend. If you take the time to watch some of the historic games available on DVD (Montreal Vs Red Army 1976 is one of the best), you will be viewing a pioneer of the new goaltending styles and truely one of the best to ever play the game.

This collection could not be without the support of my wife and my family and friends. Thanks for your patience, support, input and tolerance over all of the past years of collecting (and the ones to come!). Enjoy!! Cheers!!
